Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.

Without spoilers of much, the show has deeper meanings than what is at face value. The story is straight forward as far as what happened and eventually why it happened. What can easily be missed is the morals throughout the entire story. Each character that remains a part of the story for long periods of time will be loved and hated. Some are annoying in certain things they do while at other times, after you have swore them off, you'll end up praising them. The acting was done quite well. There is definitely a bromance between Miles and Minroe(w) but also a very dangerous relationship between the two. Everything is tied together but it isn't so much that the show had to be rushed.
Sadly though, if you do intend on watching this show, you'll be disappointed if your looking for a third season on T.V. as NBC decided to cancel it even though there was a want from viewers to have one. Instead, the creator of the series made a comic book series to at least end the story and give closure. So, if you wish to find out what happens, you'll have to read the graphic novel after the second season. Don't this shift you away from this series.
I'd classify this show with a sci-fi, end of the world as we know it but very much alive, near possible future series (at least believable possibilities anyway).
